TRAINING FOR A TRIATHLON!
Feb. 6, 2012 ~
So, I got this hair brained idea that to live life to the fullest, means doing something totally outside my normal habits and relive a bit of my past! Yes, I decided to take up the muscle wrenching idea, with my middle age body, to start training for a TRIATHLON! I know, you laugh….keep on laughing! I tend to come up with these ideas and have this burning desire to prove not only myself wrong, but all the people laughing on the sidelines…..
So, you all keep laughing on the sidelines, while I whiz past, feeling the best I have in “like forever”! I am so sore, it hurts, but I’m not gonna give up this time. I had this same idea back when I was about to turn 40! Although God had a different plan for me…I was trying then to relive a bit of my youth and decided to do some skateboarding on my sons skateboard….only to fall off of it and dislocate my shoulder. Ugh. That was a disaster…that ended up needing surgery to repair the rotator cuff and hold the shoulder together with steel-like strength thread. It only took me 4 months to come back and I started golfing in the tournament I had organized!
So, needless to say, my resolve to do something is insurmountable at most times…especially when it comes to staying fit. I truly believe a fit body will keep your body and mind fit for a lifetime….
I intend to stay on this planet for a while people! (other than the fact that my mother passing away at the young age of 43..has helped my resolve to stay physically and mentally strong. No boohoos here…it has has made me stronger and the person I am today, to have learned some of those lessons and keep it going!)
Anyways…Say some prayers for me! Imma gonna need them!!
Feb. 19, 2012 ~
Today and everyday since I started training for the Triathlon, I am sore. It seems my middle age is getting the best of me….but I am not giving up.
Not only have I gotten up to 2.5 miles on the elliptical in less than 14 min. on average, but 6.5 miles on the bike and .5 mile on the track. I am plum tired. Today I am going to swim train. Hopefully my body can with stand the cold of the water! I only have to swim 225 yards, so I know full well I can accomplish that, because I used to be a swimmer in high school and have since kept it up for the most part, in my pursuit to stay fit. I do thank God for instilling that same love of swimming, in my daughter too. She is going with me today to train too. She, in her young age of 15, has done two triathlons! So I gotta catch up!
